Receivers Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) and Chris Godwin (fibula), along with running back Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder), are all sidelined. And this is the part most people miss: their absence could significantly impact the team's offensive strategy.
Egbuka's hamstring injury, sustained during the win over the 49ers, leaves his playing time uncertain. Godwin, who returned from a serious ankle injury in Week 4, has already missed a game this season. Irving, injured in Week 4, has sat out the past two games.
Ronde Barber, a Hall of Fame cornerback, recently expressed his concerns on The Ronde Barber Show: "The ones that worry you are Bucky and Godwin. I can't get a solid answer on what's wrong with either of them." This lack of clarity is a cause for concern, especially as neither player has been placed on IR, which would have provided a clearer timeline for their recovery.
The situation with Godwin is particularly intriguing. While his listed injury is "fibula," it's the same leg that suffered a severe ankle injury last year. Without access to his medical records, it's impossible to determine if the current issue is related to the multiple procedures he underwent. If so, it raises questions about the Bucs' decision to sign Godwin to a lucrative three-year, $66 million contract without protective language regarding his ankle injury.
This deal, with $44 million guaranteed, was a leap of faith by the Bucs, especially considering the Patriots were also interested in signing Godwin to a similar contract. The team may have felt pressured to offer a no-strings-attached package to secure his services.
As a result, Godwin and Irving could miss yet another game, and Egbuka's status for Monday night is uncertain. If Evans plays, he might become the primary target, receiving a significant number of passes.
